Our 2 SYEP EJ Fellows had a full final day, starting with weeding of the Planting Power Newburgh food forest at Calvary Presbyterian Church. We then did a thorough trash clean up with Keep Newburgh Beautiful and additional SYEPers from MARCS Friends on South Street between Grand and Chambers.

From there we joined Land to Learn and Our Core SYEPers at Ann Street Garden, and then back to home base at Wireworks to work on design, social media, event planning, work documentation, and reflections.

It was a great 1st year working with Orange County SYEP and we are grateful for their support!

Come to Safe Harbors Green to celebrate barbershops and all they have meant to Newburgh communities over the decades!

• How can we improve collaboration and knowledge sharing?

Saturday, June 8, 2024 the EJ Fellows:

• Explored a collaborative greening and neighborhood safety project with Habitat for Humanity & members of the Broadway River District Neighborhood Assoc.

• Cared for trees at NFA Main Campus

• Took active part in the Scenic Hudson Annual Gala at Sojourner Truth State Park

Saturday, June 1st, 2024 Newburgh’s Environmental Justice (EJ) Fellows:

• Interacted with community members at the South Middle School Annual Books & Breakfast event, sharing information about the benefits of trees, the need for ecological restoration, and gathering input through tree surveys

• Cared for trees at South Middle School and practiced identifying invasive species

• Reviewed an inventory or Newburgh Parks and recommendations for improvements, worked on mock presentations to City Council

• Fellows also shared reflections of the day’s work and made progress mapping out their Pillar projects for the year

The Newburgh Urban Farming Fair is a celebration of fresh food, local vendors, crafts, and farm fun. Attendees will learn about urban farming and gardening and participate in “how to demonstrations” about what they can do in their own yards and neighborhoods.

Many Newburgh groups will have a presence, including Newburgh’s 2024 Environmental Justice Fellows.

The days are getting longer, and spring is right around the corner! As the weather warms up, we are busily preparing for a full season of fun and creativity on Safe Harbors Green. To get the season started, join us at our annual Newburgh Community Cleanup, which kicks off a city-wide effort to keep Newburgh clean and green all year long.
